Florida rapper Flo Rida, formally known as Tarmar Lacel Dillard, recently won $82.6 million from his lawsuit against Celsius, an energy drink company.
Flo Rida filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against the company back in 2021 for not paying him stock options and bonuses he was legally entitled to per his initial contract with them.
Broward County, Florida is where the trial took place. The jury deliberated and ultimately decided in Flo Rida’s favor. His attorney, John Uustal, said there were many “complicated legal issues” involved with the case.
“Basically, I helped birth this company, and all we was looking for was some trustworthy people who acted as if they were family,” the rapper, real name Tramar Dillard, told The Associated Press.
“And then when it comes down to the success of today, they just forgot about me.”
“Celsius is disappointed with the result and disagrees with the jury’s verdict, we intend to appeal based on several grounds,” a spokesperson for Celsius stated in an interview with PEOPLE.
“This decision doesn’t take away from all Celsius has accomplished over the last several years and we look forward to achieving continued success and delivering quality products to our customers.”
According to PEOPLE, The Miami New Times also shared that since Celsius first hit the NASDAQ exchange in 2017, it is now trading for more than $106 per share, while each share was worth less than $1 when Flo Rida’s partnership began.
The lawsuit stated that Celsius owed rapper Flo Rida a 1% ownership stake. In court, Flo Rida admitted that he did not know the company was withholding further royalties and stock from him.
Once he discovered this, he filed a lawsuit for breach of contract. After the trial ended Celsius lawyers responded by stating they feel he was overpaid with the $82.6M sum.
