G FUEL can be regarded as one of the top energy drinks in the market. Like most energy drinks and depending on each consumer, each person has a certain preference. But this drink is not without issues for its consumers. One such complaint is the powder that settles at the bottom after mixing it with water for consumption.
Many of its consumers have acknowledged the powdery issue, and some people have tried several ways to solve the chalkiness but still no sure results. Though we might not be certain of the trials, the first issue to resolve here is what causes the chalkiness in G FUEL. This is one of the nitty-gritty and other questions I will be answering in this article. If this has been a long time worry, you can chill, you came to the right place. Read on and learn more.
Firstly, when your G FUEL tastes chalky, you probably didn’t shake it well enough and for the recommended length of time before drinking. Without proper shaking, the vitamins found in the powder fail to dissolve, leaving a powdery residue each time you take a sip.
Therefore, the undissolved powder settles at the bottom of the cup after the mixture sits for a while. There is no sure way to solve the chalky taste yet, but you can partially solve the problem by shaking the drink each time you want to take a sip.
There is no proof yet if the chalkiness can be solved by increasing the quantity of water and reducing the quantity of powder. Until there is a permanent solution, you will have to shake your drink before taking a sip, as earlier mentioned. Also, I think it goes without saying this guide is exclusive to G FUEL in the powder form. G FUEL in the can does not have the same noticeable powdery taste as in the powder form.
Is G FUEL supposed to taste powdery?
Before you think otherwise, it should be noted that G FUEL is not intentionally made to be powdery. The main purpose of G FUEL is to get the intended composition which qualifies it as an energy drink. However, if it tastes powdery this may be because of the excess vitamins that can be difficult to dissolve in water.
The good news is that the powdery taste is not very unpleasant. With frequent consumption, Many people become used to the taste.
How to make G FUEL less powdery?
I mentioned earlier that the excess vitamins that can’t dissolve when you mix G FUEL are why your G FUEL will taste powdery. However, one suggestion states that you could get used to the texture, but what if you don’t. One recommendation to reduce the powdery feel is to reduce the amount of powder per serving, though not a very effective method because more water than the required ratio will hinder the drink’s flavor.
Secondly, some other tip suggests you mix with hot water (water at about 160°F / 71°C). After mixing, add cold water and shake again. Finally, pour the mixture into a cup of ice cubes and shake thoroughly between 90- 120 seconds. The longer you shake, the better the tendency to dissolve most of the powder-causing vitamins.
This suggestion does not claim to solve the powder issue completely but reduces it to a considerably acceptable level. But if you let it stand for a while, you will have to shake it before drinking because the little undissolved powder that is left settles at the bottom again after the cup sits for a while.
Alternatively, you can use the following procedure to make your G FUEL less powdery.
- To prepare one serving of G FUEL, get an empty bottle of 500ml.
- Prepare your G FUEL drink, shake for about 60-120 seconds, and then place the mixture in a fridge for about 20-60minutes (the low temperature acts as a catalyst to make the undissolved powder settle faster).
- While the mixture is in the fridge, prepare an empty bottle of almost the same size. After about the time stated above, please take out the mixture and, without shaking it, carefully pour ( decant) it into the empty cup, making sure the powder remains at the bottom of the cup. This method is the most effective, and you should give it a try.
- You will have a solution ( one or two sips) with a very powdery taste left behind. You can either drink it and then push it down with your nonpowdery solution or you either discard the powdery solution if you don’t like it at all.
Note: Hot water increases the temperature of molecules, increasing their energy. The increased energy coupled with shaking causes a breakdown of the powder and hence dissolution.
Another common question people ask about G FUEL is: will make you gain weight? In a recent article, we explore this topic.
How long do you shake G FUEL?
There is no standard length of time to shake G FUEL. However, there exists a range usually between 30-120 seconds or even more. Vigorously shaking the mixture can shorten the duration of shaking and vice versa.
However, shaking too vigorously does not mean all the powder will dissolve. Also, if you follow the packet’s water-to-powder ratio prescription, shaking can be done between 30-and 120 seconds. But for better results (that is, for most of the powder to dissolve), you can shake for up to 4 minutes.
If you are a regular consumer of G FUEL, you will notice that making your drink sit for a few minutes after each sip causes the powder to accumulate at the bottom. So shaking it each time until the drink finishes is recommended if you want a more enjoyable texture.

What is the best mixing ratio?
G FUEL is among the many products that require mixing with water before consumption. And like any other product, the right ratios will make the right result. You probably don’t want to waste your last packet of G FUEL on a bad mix? So what ratio of water is recommended to mix G FUEL. To obtain good results, 16 ounces (500ml) of water will do for a packet or a scoop (two teaspoons or 7g) of G FUEL.
The right ratios are important for the vitamins to quickly and easily dissolve and obtain good flavor. With less water, no matter how well you mix it, you will have a lot of powder at the bottom—the powder results from the vitamins that can’t dissolve.
